Dangote refinery resumes the importation and purchase of crude oil from the United States after a three (3) month hiatus, this move is part of the refinery’s plans to boost its production capacity to be able to cater to the growing demands for fuel in Nigeria and other surrounding regions.
According to a Bloomberg report, on Wednesday 20th, November, the refinery is set to receive a cargo of two million barrels of WTI Midland crude from Chevron Corp, which will be delivered to its 650,000 barrels per day petrochemical plant in Lagos by next month.
Interestingly, the latest development indicates that the naira-for-crude deal made by the Dangote refinery and the federal government may have faltered or the refinery is not getting adequate crude supply from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
The decision came after the refinery’s decision to stop purchasing crude from foreign countries, choosing instead to focus on domestic supply within the country, just a few months ago.
According to the report, Chevron Corp booked the supertanker Azure Nova to load crude from the US Gulf around December 5th,2024, to Dangote Refinery, as seen by Bloomberg according to tanker fixtures.
